Shining the Spotlight on #ProtivitiAdvisors

As we wrap up Advisor Month, we want to recap some of the advice that has been shared throughout the month.

Steven Lafrance

Los Angeles Managing Director Scott gave this advice to fellow Managing Director Steven, “We are a “team”.  Which on the surface is pretty basic, but what it really means is that you do not have to face all of the challenges alone.  We are in this together.”

Jillian

Senior Specialist Jillian shared a simple but profound nugget:  “Work hard, and be nice to people.”

Manager Lindsay’s advisor, Managing Director Steve, urged her to be her own advocate, saying “At Protiviti, we have the opportunity to participate in an array of engagements.  From these experiences, we are constantly learning and gaining insight into what drives us professionally and personally.  By being your own advocate and expressing your interests, you have the ability to drive your career in the direction that allows you to be successful and fulfilled.”

Miranda and Hudson

Meet Miranda, a Specialist in Human Resources in our Metro Washington, DC office

Last (but certainly not least!) in our #ProtivitiAdvisors series is Miranda.  Miranda is a Human Resources Specialist in our Metro DC office.  She excels at a variety of critical HR roles, including but not limited to: performance management; training new members of our HR team; and serving as the leave concierge for employees who take leaves of absence, including parental leave.  Pictured above with her son, Hudson, Miranda is also the local office champion for Protiviti’s Parents’ Network.

How does Miranda successfully bring her career to life at Protiviti?  To a great extent, she credits her advisor Elizabeth.  “Elizabeth is my advisor/mentor/boss lady/friend/spirit animal and I could write a book on all the real world advice she’s given me over the years – both professionally and personally,” shares Miranda.  When pushed to narrow down all this wisdom to the most relevant advice Elizabeth has provided recently, Miranda reveals this gem:

At the end of the day, what we do is about helping and knowing our people, and that includes helping and knowing ourselves.  It is important to take care of yourself, and don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it.”

And with that, we conclude this round of spotlights on #ProtivitiAdvisors in honor of Advisor Month.  We thank all of the individuals whose stories were highlighted in this series, as well as the thousands of other advisors not featured here who shine every day in our workforce.

Protiviti’s great cultural strength is the way that our people build relationships with one another that empower them to be their best.  The Advisor Program is a reflection of this, and we are so happy to have spent some time sharing it with this audience over the last month!  We hope you now see that being a strong career advisor is truly #LivingProtiviti.

Over the past couple of years, she has demonstrated that she is a team player and is very committed to her career development. She consistently seeks more challenging projects and is very capable of stepping into a variety of roles on our BPI engagements. They have helped build me in my early years at Protiviti, especially with the process of developing good working habits. I feel the Shenzhen office has built a very open and sharing culture around senior and upper levels. I can always turn to upper management for help and career advice.”
  • What advice would you give to younger consultants on how to progress their careers?: “It isn’t quite advice, but more what I aim to achieve — always enjoy and keep learning.”

“Talent with unlimited potential”

Protiviti Managing Director and Kevin’s Career Advisor Christina had this to say about Kevin…

“I feel lucky that Kevin joined us after his graduation and even prouder to be his career advisor throughout the last 2+ years. During his time here, he has touched on almost all segments in the Internal Audit Financial Advisory solution and now he has achieved his first career milestone to be an excellent senior consultant. This past year Kevin challenged one of the most important and critical projects in Protiviti China and achieved great success together with his team. Kevin stays curious for new solutions and new industries and possesses courage and confidence to keep exploring. I have to say, you never know the “shape” of his skill set because he is such a quick and brave learner that he grows before someone can clearly define him. His firm and tenacious character is precious not only to his own achievement but also to the spirit of our younger generation consultants. It’s an honor to share in Kevin’s joy over his promotion and I am looking forward to accompanying him on his path of greater success!”

  • What do you enjoy about building your career at Protiviti? “The first thing that comes to mind when thinking about what I have enjoyed about building my career at Protiviti are the people I have met along the way. I have had the opportunity to work with some amazing people who have all been very encouraging and supportive of my growth and experience at the firm. Additionally, I could not have asked for a better office than the Charlotte office to start my Protiviti career. The sense of family and camaraderie within the Charlotte office makes it so easy to call home. • Who has contributed to your success or been a mentor to you during your Protiviti career?  “There are so many individuals and leaders within the company that have contributed to my success in one way or another. Being from industry with no experience in consulting, my career advisor Brendan, assisted me in making the transition smoothly. Additionally, my mentor Juan, who has also been my manager on various projects, has put me in positions to succeed by being available to answer questions and providing perspective.”
  • What advice would you give to younger consultants on how to progress their careers?: “My advice to younger consultants is to seek opportunities by reaching out to individuals within the firm. Ask questions about our solutions and seek advice on communicating with clients.”

..So what did career advisor Brendan have to say about Salima?

“Salima came to Protiviti with a solid background in banking and anti-money laundering (AML). Since she started with us, she has proven time and again to be a reliable team leader on demanding AML projects, as well as a trustworthy mentor and source of AML knowledge for the other consultants on her projects.
